At Costers del Sió, sustainability is not a label or a trend, but a way of working that defines our project and guides every decision we make in the vineyard and in the winery.

We believe in a viticulture that is respectful, honest and committed to the environment. Because only in this way can we craft wines with identity, quality and soul.

An environment that shapes the character of our wines

Our estate is located in the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees, surrounded by mountains, rivers and forests. A living landscape, far from cities, factories and sources of pollution, which allows us to work in a privileged natural environment with virtually zero environmental contamination.

This context not only shapes the character of our wines, but also requires us to be consistent in everything we do. Respecting the environment is part of our responsibility as a winery.

A certified sustainable model

Costers del Sió’s commitment to sustainability is endorsed by the Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection (SWfCP) certification, which recognises a working model based on environmental, social and economic responsibility.

In the vineyard, we are committed to:

  • Organic practices, using only natural fertilisers of animal and vegetal origin.
  • Vineyards free from aggressive chemical products.
  • Support irrigation only, with 100% of the water coming from rainfall, thanks to efficient water resource management.

All of this is part of a model designed to preserve the land today and guarantee its future.

Siós Nature: the purest expression of our organic philosophy

Within this commitment, there is one wine that especially represents our way of working: Siós Nature, our organic red wine.

Siós Nature is born in Hort del Marcial, a small organic plot of just 2.1 hectares, where one of the estate’s most emblematic Syrah vineyards grows. The grapes are harvested by hand in 15 kg boxes and, after meticulous selection, are vinified with minimal intervention in the winery.

Alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously in open French oak barrels, with continuous pigeage over ten days. No unnecessary additives. No artifices. Just grapes, time and judgement.

The result is a wine that seeks to convey the pure expression of Syrah in our territory, with a limited production of 9,975 bottles.

A wine with identity and recognition

Siós Nature stands out for its intense aromatic expression, with notes of red and black fruits, spices and a mineral background that adds personality. On the palate it is fleshy, fresh and elegant, with a long and well-balanced finish.

This way of understanding wine has been recognised by specialised critics, with distinctions such as:

  • James Suckling – 90 points (2022 vintage)
  • Decanter World Wine Awards – Silver (2019 vintage)
  • Vinari Awards – Silver (2020 vintage)
  • Decanter World Wine Awards – 91 points (2024 vintage)

A recognition that reinforces a clear idea: sustainability and quality go hand in hand.

The present of the project

Today, Costers del Sió is a winery committed to a real sustainable model, deeply rooted in the territory and designed to offer high-quality wines that remain faithful to the estate and its history.

We continue to work from the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees with a clear conviction: to respect the land, care for the grapes and craft wines that tell the story of where they come from.
