Hi, #sióslover!
Will you join us in the art of tasting a wine step by step?

A wine tasting is an activity that consists of tasting and evaluating the different sensory aspects of a wine, such as color, aroma, flavor and texture. In a wine tasting, different wines are usually tasted comparatively, allowing the unique characteristics of each to be evaluated and compared.

Wine tasting step by step

Can you do a tasting without knowing much about wines? Of course yes, always having in full force the three senses used to taste a wine: sight, smell and taste.

A wine tasting consists of three phases:

- Visual phase

- Olfactory phase

- Gustatory phase

In each of these phases we can experience different sensations that will vary from one person to another. Below we explain how to carry out a complete wine tasting for when you meet with friends or family.

The first phase is the visual phase

Choose a good glass and hold it gently by the stem to prevent the heat of your hand from affecting the temperature of the wine.
Now observe the surface of the wine to see if it is shiny or dull, if it is clean and free of imperfections. Also pay attention to the color layer if it is low, medium or high.

The second phase is the olfactory phase

Do not move the glass and take a first breath to sense the most subtle aromas.
Now keep your wrist flexible and rotate the cup gently in circular motions.
This movement helps the wine come into contact with the air, oxygenating it and releasing a greater intensity of aromas. From the primary aromas that come from the grape variety, through the secondary ones from fermentation and the tertiary aromas that come from aging.
Notice how the wine's characteristics unfold as it mixes with oxygen.
Avoid sudden or excessively fast movements, as they could spill the wine.

The last phase is the gustatory phase

Take a small sip of wine and pass it over all areas of the tongue. Inhale through your mouth with the wine inside and expel the air through your nose to obtain the aromas retronasally.
Finally, swallow the wine and the sensations that the wine has left in its wake will remain in your mouth.
